HORSE the band is an irregular group of young men who just can't seem to fit in... anywhere! Known foremost as the originators of the now firmly-established genre of Nintendocore, HORSE the band has shed their novelty beginnings to become one of the most original bands in heavy music; always exciting and always unpredictable. As their world-wide cult fan base burgeons, so too does their dark reputation. Horror stories abound and are unfortunately, in most cases, completely true. From the pinata-induced flooding of a hotel, actually dropping off tours to actually write albums about pizza, beating up Ween fans, missing shows for dubious sexual encounters, totaling rental vans, and throwing outlandish underage sex/costume penthouse parties in Las Vegas, to the deranged actions of the mentally ill lead singer "The General", including an international arrest for attempted murder, a nervous breakdown in Mexico, the destruction of Heavy Heavy Low Low's trailer, death threats to fans at knife-point, and public defecation, HORSE the band has practically dug their own grave in the United States' professional touring circuit in the past 2 years.
But! They have the self-reliance to dig themselves out and keep doing things their way. Through it all they've stayed true to themselves and suffered the consequences under the watch of a new, puritanical music industry. That's real. At a HORSE the band show you won't find 7 copies of the set list neatly taped to the stage, and you won't hear the same scripted bullshit every night. The interaction with fans is genuine, and the performance, at the risk of seeming unprofessional, is straight from the heart. That's real.
Here's what the band has to say about their ambitious new project:
"Three years ago we booked a three-month, eight country tour with no booking agency, manager, or CD in stores. It was the funnest tour we have ever done. 3 years and 11 professional package tours later, we've become disillusioned, bad-attitude nerds and pariahs of the established music industry. FUCK IT.
We are currently planning a 40-country tour of Earth. We are booking the tour by ourselves, and going by ourselves because everyone is scared of us and no one will let us play their tours because we are too wild and crazy. In addition, no booking agencies will book shows for us on foreign soil because we have no "tour history on the books" or "soundscans" or "albums in stores". It is time to once again take matters into our own hands, go off the beaten track, and show the music industry that they don't matter anymore because of the INTERNET. We hope to be an inspiration to all young bands with honest dreams and the willingness to say "FUCK IT" to the shitty, boring, timid, sterile conventions that have slimed their way into our scene with the recent commercialization and homogenization of underground music. We will be producing a TV show/movie about recklessly circling the globe playing volatile shows, eating weird new foods, meeting new races and species, seeing the marvels of nature and man, narrowly escaping tragedy (or not escaping it), all while teetering on the brink of alcoholism and mental illness and sharing the language of music that unites us all!
HORSE the band is five stellar gods running from a haunted future they can't possibly forget. Formed on the mean streets of Los Angeles in 2027 A.D. the members of H the B began to create their exotic sound to fight the past and recreate the future. HORSE the band consists of Nathan the tormented poet beast on vocals, David the hyper-intelligent lover on guitar, Erik the child-like wizard of keyboards, young Christopher Prophet on drums, and Dash the gritty urban street-lord on bass. HORSE the band's music has won them many accolades for energy and originality. Often referred to as 'nintendo-core' because of their spastic and glorious brutality they prefer to strike out and create their own unique sounds each time they manifest their powers.
'A Natural Death' is about the futility and arrogance of creation and destruction, the overwhelming scale of space and time, and the brutal majesty of nature. The horror of birth and the beauty of death. 17 epic soundscapes drip with a sensual darkness, as HORSE the band enters into an arena of savagery heretofore unseen from the group. Cinematic doomy instrumental pieces mingle with the classic HORSE spazzy, dancy, and hypermelodic sound to invoke in the listener the crushing weight of the vastness and emptyness of the universe. This time around, the band adds even more multi-textural layers with the use of gameboy sequencing, drum loops, a bear, and a myriad of new 8-bit and orchestral synth patches. The addition of Christopher Prophet on drums undeniably results in a tighter and faster band, capable of pulling off mindbending syncopated rhythms. As one of the only bands pushing creative limits and exploring new and unheard worlds of sound, HORSE the band rightfully claims their place at the forefront of American metal.
